Description
My wife and I were walking through Tentsmuir Muir forest, in Scotland. Emerging onto the beach, I saw a serpentine inlet of water. I thought that would work, receding into a picture, and looked for something to put in the foreground. I tried a bush and then saw the piece of driftwood and thought it could mirror the shape of the water. I took that at 17mm, focussing at hyperfocal to get everything in focus. I wanted to see if the extra few millimetres on my new Olympus 12-40 lens would make much difference, changed to 12mm and walked forward. That brought in more sky and more contrast. By moving round, I brought in more of the lighter sky and increased the angle of the branch in the image, giving a more dynamic composition. The dramatic lighting was supplied by the dark clouds in the corner, a rain shower which caught us five minutes later.
