Rooster at Madeira Botanical Gardens
Near the top of the Botanical Gardens on Madeira I encountered this cockerel. Very much my archetypal image of a cockerel, the classic Gallic rooster or coq gaulois. The Gardens do not have any farm or rare breeds centre or anything like that. This cockerel was the only animal I saw there. He seemed to strut around as if he owned the place and was not shy about getting close to people.
